 1.  In the 1971 war, East Pakistan and West Pakistan were divided.  Bangladesh came on the world map as a separate country.  This was India's first war against Pakistan.

 2.  When the Kargil war broke out, the NDA was running the central government of India.  And the Prime Minister of the country was Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

 3.  'Operation Vijay' was launched by the Indian Army to repel the Pakistani troops who crossed the Line of Control and entered the Indian border during the Kargil war.

 4.  The Indian Air Force also played a vital role in the fight against the Pakistani army on the border.  Similar to Operation Vijay, the Indian Air Force's operation was called 'Operation Safed Sagar'.  The contribution of Indian Air Force pilots in just 7 days of preparation was undeniable.  The Pak army was forced to retreat in the manner in which the Indian Air Force fought from about 32,000 feet.

 5.  528 brave Indian soldiers were killed in the battle of Kargil.  That is why every year on July 26, 'Kargil Vijay Divas', a function is organized in New Delhi to pay homage to the late martyred soldiers.  The Prime Minister paid tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil War in front of the India Gate.  For this a wall was built on behalf of India.  On that wall are engraved the names of each of the martyrs of the Kargil war.  Pakistan claims that more than 3,000 soldiers were killed in that country.

 6.  Recently, the Kargil War was the highest war in the history of the world.  The war was raging in Kargil, Siachen and Ladakh, areas much higher than sea level.  There has not been such a battle in recent times at such a height of the mountain (6,060 feet).

 7.  The Indian soldiers were not only fighting against the Pakistani soldiers.  They also had to fight against the extreme cold.  At the time of the Kargil war, temperatures in some areas were minus 10 degrees Celsius or, in some cases, even lower.  Even in such cold weather, the temperature of the battle was not low.
